The Fretless is made up of Karrnnel Sawitsky (fiddle, viola), Trent Freeman (fiddle, viola), Ben Plotnick (fiddle, viola), and Eric Wright (cello). The forthcoming album Glasswing will include the recent single “Caledonia” featuring Madeleine Roger and the lead single, “Lost Lake,” These two singles serve as the perfect introduction to the upcoming album. Glasswing showcases breath, space, and intention, marking the first time they’ve opened their writing process to collaboration. Madeleine Roger co-wrote three songs on the album after touring with the band for over a year. Glasswing will be their sixth album, and it reflects a decade of musical evolution as they shape their unique sound.

The Fretless are a Juno Award-winning Canadian quartet known for their masterful compositions and genre-bending sound, transforming fiddle tunes and folk melodies into intricate, high-energy arrangements. They have amassed over 7 million streams, completed dozens of world tours, and collaborated with the Luxembourg and Cologne Philharmonic Orchestras. With multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards and JUNO Award nominations and wins, their rhythmic and heart-wrenching arrangements have earned them respect in both the folk and classical worlds.
Their 2012 debut album won Instrumental Album of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards, and subsequent albums have garnered numerous accolades, including a JUNO Award for Instrumental Album of the Year in 2017. Their 2022 album, Open House, featured notable collaborators like Ruth Moody, Joey Landreth, and Dan Mangan.
