Joanna Borromeo is a solo artist in the Toronto R&B music scene, armed with many talents. She is a vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter whose abilities transcend the boundaries of the R&B genre. Since having been classically trained, and then further refined through playing modern jazz, Joanna’s musical style is best defined not by genre but by how she uses her knowledge of melody, harmony, rhythm, and improvisation to produce music that not only earns the respect of Toronto’s R&B and jazz musicians but is also accessible to an audience that enjoys the popular genres of today. Her 2010 release Through The Dark consists of five pieces, a mere 19 minutes of unalloyed listening pleasure.
Her command over her own voice and the keyboard, coupled with a compelling stage presence, makes Joanna an artist not easily forgotten. In addition to heading her own solo project, she is a regular member of two other bands: The Centaurs (an independent experimental 4-piece group), and the Outlanders (jazz/folk instrumental quartet).
